Our client is a leading international reinsurance company seeking an experienced Head of Pricing Actuary to drive pricing excellence and support the profitable growth of its global reinsurance portfolio.
This strategic leadership position combines advanced actuarial expertise with commercial decision-making, offering the opportunity to work closely with Underwriting, Portfolio Management and Executive Leadership to shape pricing strategy and influence business performance.
Based in Brussels, you will lead a team of pricing actuaries while contributing to the development of innovative pricing methodologies and sustainable portfolio management.
Your Role
As Head of Pricing Actuary, you will be responsible for defining and executing the pricing strategy across multiple reinsurance portfolios.
You will ensure underwriting decisions are supported by robust actuarial analysis, accurate pricing models and forward-looking portfolio insights while leading the continuous evolution of pricing capabilities across the business.
Your Responsibilities
Pricing Strategy & Portfolio Management
- Define and implement pricing strategies that support profitable and sustainable portfolio growth.
- Partner with Underwriting and Portfolio Management teams to optimise pricing decisions across the reinsurance portfolio.
- Assess portfolio profitability, identify emerging trends and recommend strategic actions.
- Contribute to business planning, forecasting and portfolio performance monitoring.
- Support product development and pricing innovation aligned with market evolution.
Pricing Models & Actuarial Analysis
- Lead the development, validation and continuous enhancement of pricing models and actuarial methodologies.
- Ensure pricing assumptions remain robust, accurate and aligned with market conditions.
- Deliver complex actuarial analyses supporting underwriting decisions and strategic initiatives.
- Improve pricing tools, modelling techniques and analytical processes through innovation and automation.
- Ensure high standards of technical governance across all pricing activities.
Business Partnering
- Act as the principal actuarial advisor on pricing matters for underwriting and senior management.
- Translate complex actuarial analyses into clear commercial recommendations.
- Collaborate closely with Finance, Risk Management, Claims and Portfolio Management teams.
- Support executive decision-making with data-driven insights and profitability analyses.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of pricing actuaries and analysts.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on technical excellence and innovation.
- Support talent development, succession planning and knowledge sharing.
- Drive continuous improvement across pricing processes and actuarial practices.
Profile
- Qualified Actuary (FIA, FCAS, ACAS or equivalent internationally recognised qualification).
- Significant experience in Pricing Actuarial roles within General Insurance or Reinsurance.
- Proven expertise in developing commercial pricing strategies and actuarial pricing frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of portfolio management and profitability analysis.
- Experience developing and maintaining sophisticated pricing models.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing actuarial teams.
- Strong commercial mindset with the ability to balance technical accuracy and business objectives.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Advanced analytical capabilities and strong problem-solving skills.
- Experience using actuarial and analytical tools such as:
- Excel
- VBA
- SQL
- R
- Python (considered an asset)
- Excellent command of English.
