Senior Underwriter for an Insurance in Brussels

For one of our clients, we are actively looking for a Senior Underwriter with insurance experience in Brussels.

Our client is a leading international insurer looking to strengthen its Financial Lines practice in Belgium and Luxembourg.


As part of an ambitious growth strategy, the company is investing in its local market presence and is looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter Financial Lines to play a key role in building and expanding its portfolio. Based in Brussels or Antwerp, you will enjoy a high degree of autonomy while working closely with brokers, clients and regional underwriting teams.


Role

As Senior Underwriter Financial Lines, you will be responsible for developing and managing a profitable portfolio across Belgium and Luxembourg.


You will combine technical underwriting expertise with business development, broker relationship management and portfolio strategy to establish a strong local market presence.


Your responsibilities will include underwriting complex risks, contributing to product development and identifying new business opportunities while maintaining a profitable and sustainable portfolio.


Underwriting & Portfolio Management

  • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of Financial Lines risks across Belgium and Luxembourg.
  • Assess, price and negotiate complex insurance programmes.
  • Maintain underwriting discipline while achieving profitable growth.
  • Contribute to portfolio planning, forecasting and underwriting strategy.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Conduct underwriting and peer reviews to ensure technical excellence and underwriting consistency.


Product Development

  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of Financial Lines products.
  • Adapt policy wordings and coverage solutions to evolving market needs.
  • Monitor legal, regulatory and market developments impacting Financial Lines insurance.
  • Support innovation and continuous improvement of product offerings.


Business Development

  • Build and strengthen long-term relationships with brokers and key clients.
  • Identify new business opportunities and actively grow the portfolio.
  • Increase client retention through proactive relationship management.
  • Promote cross-selling opportunities across the wider insurance portfolio.
  • Represent the company at broker meetings, networking events and industry conferences.


Market Representation

  • Act as a trusted advisor to brokers and clients.
  • Strengthen the company's visibility and reputation within the Belgian and Luxembourg Financial Lines market.
  • Deliver a high level of technical expertise and customer service.
  • Contribute to the company's long-term growth strategy in the region. 


Profile

  • Master's degree or equivalent through experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of underwriting experience within Financial Lines.
  • Strong expertise in one or more of the following products:
  • Professional Indemnity (PI)
  • Directors & Officers Liability (D&O)
  • Crime Insurance
  • Financial Institutions Insurance
  • Strong commercial mindset combined with excellent technical underwriting capabilities.
  • Experience developing long-term broker and client relationships.
  • Knowledge of policy wording analysis and product development.
  • Entrepreneurial, autonomous and results-driven.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Fluent in Dutch and French. English is considered a strong asset.
