Senior Underwriter - Cyber Insurance in Brussels

For one of our clients, an international insurance company recognized for its expertise in specialty insurance, we are looking for a Senior Cyber Underwriter.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic underwriting team at the forefront of one of the fastest-growing insurance markets, combining technical risk analysis, innovation and commercial development.


Your Role

As a Senior Cyber Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting and developing a portfolio of Cyber insurance risks for mid-sized and large corporate clients.

You will assess complex cyber exposures, negotiate tailored insurance solutions and work closely with brokers and internal stakeholders to ensure sustainable portfolio growth while maintaining disciplined underwriting standards.

Beyond underwriting, you will play an active role in developing the company's Cyber proposition and strengthening its market presence.


Role

Underwriting & Risk Assessment

  • Underwrite new and renewal Cyber insurance risks across multiple industries.
  • Evaluate clients' cyber maturity, security controls and digital risk exposure.
  • Assess technical, operational and financial information to determine underwriting decisions.
  • Structure customized coverage solutions while balancing profitability and risk appetite.
  • Negotiate pricing, policy wording, limits and terms with brokers.


Portfolio Management

  • Develop and manage a profitable Cyber insurance portfolio.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, loss trends and emerging cyber threats.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize underwriting strategies and improve portfolio profitability.
  • Contribute to portfolio reviews, forecasting and business planning.


Business Development

  • Build and strengthen relationships with brokers, clients and business partners.
  • Identify new business opportunities and contribute to portfolio expansion.
  • Represent the company during broker meetings, client presentations and market events.
  • Support the development of innovative Cyber insurance products aligned with evolving market needs.


Technical Expertise & Collaboration

  • Work closely with Claims, Risk Engineering, Product Development and Legal teams.
  • Stay informed on emerging cyber threats, ransomware trends, regulatory developments and evolving market practices.
  • Provide technical guidance on complex underwriting cases.
  • Share expertise across the underwriting team and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. 


Profile

  • Master's degree in Insurance, Finance, Business, Engineering, Information Security or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 4 to 7 years of underwriting experience, ideally within Cyber Insurance, Financial Lines or Technology Risks.
  • Strong understanding of cyber risks, information security principles and cyber insurance products.
  • Ability to analyze complex risks and make commercially sound underwriting decisions.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to develop long-term broker partnerships.
  • Curious about new technologies, cybersecurity trends and digital transformation.
  • Fluent in French and/or Dutch, with a professional command of English

Compensation Package

For a Cyber Underwriter position in Belgium, you can typically expect:

  • Gross monthly salary: €5,500 to €8,000, depending on experience and technical expertise.
  • Annual performance bonus, generally between 10% and 20% of annual salary.
