Fraud Specialist - Bank in Brussels

For one of our clients, we are actively looking for a Fraud Specialist for a banking institution in Brussels.

Our client is a well-established Belgian bank specialising in entrepreneurs, self-employed professionals and liberal professions. Its working environment combines strong customer proximity with a collaborative culture in which autonomy, initiative and professional integrity are highly valued.


To strengthen its fraud prevention framework, the bank is looking for a Fraud Specialist who will help protect clients against evolving fraud threats and improve the organisation’s detection, prevention and response capabilities.


Role

As a Fraud Specialist, you will act as a central point of expertise for external fraud risk.


Your role goes beyond analysing individual cases. You will identify recurring fraud patterns, coordinate preventive initiatives, contribute to strategic projects and ensure that fraud risks are clearly reported to senior stakeholders.


The position combines fraud prevention, data analysis, project management, stakeholder coordination and governance.


Fraud Awareness and Prevention

  • Develop an annual fraud-awareness programme for clients, including targeted communications, practical guidance and customer testimonials.
  • Respond quickly to emerging fraud trends by launching additional awareness initiatives.
  • Train colleagues who have direct contact with clients and strengthen their ability to recognise suspicious behaviour.
  • Translate complex fraud scenarios into clear and practical prevention measures.


Detection and Risk Mitigation

  • Monitor developments in external fraud across the Belgian banking market.
  • Maintain regular contact with other financial institutions and relevant industry stakeholders.
  • Analyse fraud cases to identify recurring patterns, vulnerabilities and emerging methods.
  • Use these findings to improve procedures, controls and preventive measures.
  • Formulate recommendations for new detection and mitigation solutions.


Project Management

  • Contribute actively to projects within the bank’s external fraud programme.
  • Lead projects related to your area of expertise.
  • Define priorities, coordinate project participants and monitor deadlines.
  • Ensure effective implementation and follow-up of agreed measures.
  • Work closely with operational, compliance, risk, legal, IT and customer-facing teams.


Governance and Reporting

  • Monitor fraud-related key risk indicators and analyse relevant developments.
  • Prepare consolidated reporting for the fraud committee.
  • Coordinate committee agendas, meeting minutes and the follow-up of action points.
  • Organise and coordinate the bank’s 24/7 fraud support line.
  • Facilitate regular meetings between fraud-duty participants to exchange best practices and improve operational readiness. 




Profile

  • You have solid experience within the banking sector, particularly in daily banking, payments or transactional services.
  • Previous experience in fraud prevention, fraud investigations, operational risk or financial crime is an important asset.
  • You possess strong analytical skills and can translate individual cases into broader risk patterns.
  • You are proactive, solution-oriented and comfortable taking ownership of complex matters.
  • You can work independently while collaborating effectively with different departments.
  • You communicate clearly and can influence stakeholders at different organisational levels.
  • You demonstrate excellent professional integrity and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • You are digitally proficient and comfortable using Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, Power BI and internal banking systems.
  • You have an excellent command of Dutch and can communicate professionally in French.
  • You are motivated to continue developing your expertise in fraud prevention and financial crime.
