Senior Catastrophe Pricing Analyst | Reinsurance in Zurich
For one of our clients, we are currently looking for a Senior Catastrophe Pricing Analyst to strengthen its growing Reinsurance team based in Zurich.
Our client is part of a leading international insurance group with a long-standing presence across Europe and Asia. Its reinsurance activities serve clients globally, with a particular focus on Property & Casualty treaty reinsurance.
This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of catastrophe modelling, actuarial pricing and portfolio management, contributing directly to the assessment and pricing of complex reinsurance risks.
You will join a highly international environment and collaborate closely with underwriters, catastrophe modellers and actuaries across Zurich and the EU, transforming complex exposure data and model outputs into commercially relevant pricing decisions.
Role
As a Senior Catastrophe Pricing Analyst, you will play a key role in the pricing and risk assessment of Property & Casualty reinsurance treaties.
Combining catastrophe modelling, actuarial analysis and portfolio insight, you will assess complex exposures, challenge external models and contribute to developing a robust internal view of risk.
Beyond technical modelling, this position requires a strong understanding of the business behind the numbers. You will work directly with underwriters to ensure that pricing methodologies support underwriting decisions, portfolio strategy and broader business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Catastrophe Pricing & Risk Modelling
- Price and assess catastrophe reinsurance treaties using vendor catastrophe models, actuarial methodologies and statistical techniques.
- Analyze complex exposure data and model outputs to support risk selection and pricing decisions.
- Use historical claims, exposure information and market developments to strengthen pricing assumptions and portfolio insights.
- Design, enhance and maintain pricing models for reinsurance products.
- Ensure pricing methodologies remain aligned with internal frameworks and applicable regulatory requirements.
Catastrophe Modelling & Portfolio Analysis
- Analyze outputs from vendor and broker catastrophe models and critically assess their underlying assumptions.
- Contribute to the development of the company's internal view of catastrophe risk.
- Maintain accurate catastrophe exposure data across internal systems.
- Monitor accumulation controls, portfolio metrics and relevant performance indicators.
- Identify emerging trends and potential changes in risk exposure across the portfolio.
Underwriting & Business Partnership
- Work directly with Property and Reinsurance Underwriters to support the assessment and pricing of new and existing business.
- Translate sophisticated modelling outputs into clear and commercially relevant recommendations.
- Ensure pricing approaches remain consistent with underwriting practices, portfolio strategy and business objectives.
- Provide technical insight to support decision-making on complex reinsurance risks.
- Build strong relationships across technical and commercial teams.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
- Collaborate closely with catastrophe modellers, Property Underwriters and actuaries based across Zurich and the EU.
- Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to technical knowledge-sharing across pricing and underwriting teams.
- Stay up to date with catastrophe research, market developments and relevant line-of-business trends.
- Integrate new insights and methodologies into existing pricing approaches.
- Contribute to the continuous development of the team's analytical and modelling capabilities.
Profile
- Master's degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Actuarial Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Natural Sciences or another relevant field.
- Approximately 5 to 10 years of relevant professional experience in Catastrophe Modelling and/or Reinsurance Pricing.
- Hands-on experience with catastrophe modelling platforms such as RMS or Verisk.
- Strong programming and analytical capabilities, with experience in at least one language such as Python, R, SQL or VBA.
- Strong analytical judgement and the ability to critically challenge models, methodologies and assumptions.
- Proactive and solution-oriented when dealing with complex technical problems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to transform technical analyses into clear business recommendations.
- Comfortable collaborating across both technical and commercial teams.
- Able to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work within demanding deadlines.
- Full professional proficiency in English; additional languages are considered an advantage.
